This tutorial uses the worksheet Time Wasters: Self-Sabotage.
It’s from the Productivity & Time Management module of My Business Organizer. Productivity & Time Management – Time Wasters: Self Sabotage This is a powerful worksheet for business owners who want better time management, but who: * Feel like they’re always getting in their own way * Undermine their own hard work * Suffer from competing goals. Step 1: Type Of Self Sabotage Think about the time you waste through self sabotage. Common ways that entrepreneurs sabotage their time management include: * Over-committing - Taking on more than they can handle, leaving them immobilized and ineffective under the pressure * Procrastinating - Putting things off and losing precious time * Indecisiveness – Avoiding decisions that end up costing time and energy * Multi-tasking – Having to re-do poorly completed tasks, costing more time in the long run * Unassertiveness – Failing to say no, or ask for what they need, leading to extra tasks on their do-to lists. Think about your own business. List the main ways you sabotage your time. Step 2: How Can You Reduce or Eliminate This Time Waster? For each way you sabotage your time, think about what you could do differently. For instance: * If you over-commit: Could you look honestly at your schedule and set limits for the amount of work you can comfortably accept for each day, week or month? * If you procrastinate: Could you keep a time log, snapping you out of denial about the cost of your habit? * If you’re indecisive: Could you make a conscious choice to make decisions quickly, even if it means you have to change your mind sometimes? * If you multi-task: Could you experiment with single-tasking, and see if it increases your productivity? * If you’re unassertive: Could you read a book, take a class, or get some coaching to help you increase your assertiveness? For each of the types of self sabotage you listed, brainstorm ways you could reduce or eliminate this time waster.
