30-Day Organize-athon | Day 20: Organize Your Fridge

30-Day Organize-athon 20

Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!

In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to express-organize your fridge.

Let’s go!

Day 20: Organize Your Fridge

Step 1: Grab a bag and open your fridge. Quickly scanning your shelves from top to bottom, toss into the bag anything that:

  • Has passed its use-by date
  • Has wilted, sprouted, or smells funky
  • No-one eats.

Step 2: Quickly wipe down the shelves (work around the remaining items).

Step 3: Do a quick tidy of the remaining items in your fridge.

And you’re done!

Got an Extra 5 Minutes?

Let’s freshen up the freezer:

  1. Scan your freezer and discard anything ancient, expired or of unknown provenance.
  2. Quickly wipe down the shelves or drawers.
  3. Do a quick tidy of the remaining items in your freezer.

Tomorrow we’ll declutter your pantry.

#19 – I did not receive 19 yesterday. I received it today with #20. I hope this doesn’t spoil my record for responding each day!?…

#19 – This is great advice and I had tried to put a system in place prior to the Challenge but never quite got there with it. Today, I actually thought the various tasks through and created a space to house items as they become apparent. What a relief! Now to remember to check the alloted area in a timely manner!

#20 – – I had just done my refrigerator and freezer a few weeks ago so this one was easy.

    Thanks!

Done! Freezer is on my to-do list, but will require more than 5 minutes.

The pantry tomorrow!? Arg, that’s the task I’ve been avoiding all month!

Had to take a razor to scrape the scum off from the shelves…they are now gleaming, and the fridge looks sparkly, and a little sparse. Oh well. I’m proud of myself. I like Jamie’s idea about putting a papertowel in the produce drawer. That would have been helpful this time around!!

    Done.
When my fridge needed a new thermostat 2 months ago I did a complete clean-out of the freezer (and I was ashamed of how long some things had been in there!) and when I cleaned the refrigerator portion I took apart every sliding bin, shelf, & compartment and washed them til they looked new

Since doing that very detailed cleaning of it, I’ve been motivated to keep the fridge clean & tidy.

It was easy to do this mission, so I used the rest of the time to address all the things on the front of the fridge. I don’t do scrapbooking—except on the front of the fridge!
It looks much better with less stuff “decorating” it

A much need to do task I have been looking at and knowing it is time once again. Thank you for your encouragement.
I shouldn’t cook so much. Well the pumpkin soup I made is just lovely.
1 and a half butternut pumpkins
    1 chicken breast
    2 bacon stock cubes
    2 onions
    2 potatoes
    1 bottle of cream
2 teaspoons of bottled minced garlic or more
    salt
It is cold weather and here is a beautiful meal.

This one is a bit tuffer since some of the kids are here on an extended visit. Still clearing the debris — which wasn’t much– makes me feel like my kitchen is healthier.

    DONE

  7. Deborah Smith says:

Done my 5 minutes which was hard with our old fridge. No light,! No it’s not a matter of needing a new bulb, I wish it were so easy. LOL

  8. Arielle says:

I really needed to do this! I didn’t have any food to toss, but the contents of my fridge & freezer definitely needed to be reorganized. The shelves & drawers were also due for a good washing. Looks much better now!

I’ve been slowly working on this for the past week because I knew it needed to be done. All day morning sickness doesn’t lend itself to opening very many leftover containers before sending you to the bathroom 🙁 I made my husband finish going through the food while I cleaned the shelves…It was much easier that way and finally got completed.
