30-Day Organize-athon | Day 25: Declutter Your Surfaces

30-Day Organize-athon 25

Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!

In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to express-organize your surfaces.

Ready? Let’s start.

Day 25: Declutter Your Surfaces

Step 1: Decide which surfaces you want to tackle in today’s 5 minutes. Depending on the state of your surfaces, you could choose to declutter one or more of the following:

  • Kitchen counters
  • Dining table
  • Coffee table and side tables
  • Bookshelves/display cabinets
  • Sofas and armchairs
  • Home office desk and filing cabinet
  • Bathroom vanities
  • Beds
  • Floors
  • Entry hall table/consoles.

Step 2: Quickly clear your selected surface(s) by:

  • Discarding anything you don’t use or love (a little ruthlessness will earn you lovely, uncluttered surfaces that look great and make you feel wonderful)
  • Putting away things that have a home
  • Finding a home for things that don’t (if you’re struggling to find a home for something, consider tossing it instead).

And you’re done!

Got an Extra 5 Minutes?

  1. Repeat step 2 for another surface – or several!
  2. Wipe down your freshly decluttered surface so it gleams.

Now doesn’t that look and feel fabulous!

I chose to work on my bathroom/vanity counter- something I’ve been meaning to get to for some time now. Lots of shoveling in the garbage- how could I have kept on wasting so much space with so many unused products for such a long period of time? A great deal of what I was keeping there ended up being thrown out- I don’t care how much it cost me or how much I was tempted with the thought of “Well…I could STILL use this…..”. If I haven’t used it by now, chances are that I am not going use it by the time it expires (and I had some things that were well past the “use by” date as it was!). I LOVE the clear and uncluttered space- a delight to the eyes!

Started with the kitchen counter and a decorative side table in the kitchen that was COVERED with kids’ projects. It was hard to get rid of stuff, but it does look a world better, and that’s even with a lot left to do!! It really just feels cleaner.

2 surfaces done today. I think I’ll put the locations of others which need attention in a lottery and let that be my answer to “where do i start”
    Thanks

Done! surprised at how easy this was! I guess since starting the challenge most of my surfaces have been getting better and better and staying uncluttered!
