30-Day Organize-athon | Day 21: Organize Your Pantry

30-Day Organize-athon 21

Welcome to the 30-Day Organize-athon!

In today’s 5 minutes we’re going to express-organize your pantry.

Let’s start.

Day 21: Organize Your Pantry

Step 1: Grab a bag and open your pantry. Quickly scanning your shelves from top to bottom, toss into the bag anything that:

  • Has passed its use-by date
  • Is stale or unappetizing
  • No-one eats.

Step 2: Do a quick tidy of the remaining items in your pantry.

And you’re done!

Got an Extra 5 Minutes?

  1. Wipe down your pantry shelves.
  2. Check your stores of pantry staples. Add anything you need to your shopping list.
  3. Notice anything you have in excess supply. Make a mental note to stop buying these items.

Now doesn’t that feel fresher!

The 30-Day Organize-athon Mantra

Move fast. Don’t overthink. Let it go!

I’ve done all 21 so far. You’ve really motivated me.
I won’t be the least bit disappointed if I don’t win any prize because what I have managed to accomplish makes me feel I might eventually get much of the clutter out–5 or 10 minutes at a time, but i have to admit that the idea of staying “in contention” is a motivator.
What I would like to have is an ongoing daily prompt beyond these 30 days
I try to rotate my pantry staples and keep a marking pen in there to write the use-by date where I can easily see it. I also keep an index card for each shelf to reduce the risk of something getting lost.
I did find a jar of fancy mustard that was probably given to me in a gourmet basket a couple of Xmases ago–gone
Since I couldn’t comfortably stoop down to check the bottom shelf I went through my spices cupboard instead, checking for outdated ones and got some ideas for a new recipe to try tonight

Done for the week…had to take a short trip for some tests on my little boy but have now caught up and am just going back and commenting on each post.

  4. Tanya says:

Done – but not easy with a new puppy in the house and lots of extra tins and packets to stow somewhere. Must stop using the pantry as a ‘drop it somewhere’ zone for things that don’t fit into other cupboards.

  5. Michelle Clark says:

Wow, i took a LOT longer on this one. I have so many flavorings and spices for my baking !!! But its done and looks amazing!!!!
