Welcome to Day 6 of 14 Days to an Organized Closet.
Today’s task will take 15-30 minutes.
We’re going to deal with coats and jackets and finish off the hanging parts of our closets.

I’m rather late to this as work took over (or rather I let it) but back on this today as I promised myself. Coats all sorted, dry cleaned and hanging up neatly. I even wore my very smart one out last night for the first time!
Done, great timing as I am getting ready to go on a ski trip and was able to donate a couple of items that I ahve not been wearing. Also need to get a new ski jacket this year and I will have room to hang it.
Coats & jackets done, but I still need to catch up on days 4,5 and 7.
Coats & Jackets are sorted. Will take in one jacket tomorrow for a zipper repair. Feeling great of finally dealing with all my clothes.
I now have only 3 winter coats and a casual raincoat – that seems a sensible amount to me living in London. I have also sorted out my partners coats (he has more than me now) and identified those that need some mending. I included my cardigans in this task too (as I use them as jackets for work, or am more likely to have a cardigan on in the car than a coat) – I ditched about a third/half of what I had, leaving about 8 or so left. Again, no idea if that still seems excessive?
This is done! I didn’t want to move on to the next day until I had tackled my ironing. I realised when I was sorting out my hanging space that there are many, many dresses I never wear purely and simply because they are creased and unironed. I set aside two nights to do some ironing and now it’s almost like having a whole new wardrobe to wear – lovely!
I’m having a terrible TERRIBLE time with this one, and have skipped it, not just this year, but last! I live in the climate with the most extremes, have 3 jobs, one is casual, one is labor, one is formal. I have varied lengths of clothing so need coats/jackets that are also varied. And…I live in a ONE ROOM apartment. I need serious guidance on this one. Ack! I take them out, and put them all back. I’m in tears.
I had not even thought of my coats as they aren’t in the bedroom closet. I keep coats in three places: on the hooks on the way out the basement door, on hooks in a downstairs room, and in a wardrobe on the front porch. I haven’t gone through them all yet but I can see how I can organize them by season and there should be some to be donated. Good to think about. Will put this one off until I am ready to take things to Goodwill. Still working my way through things but making progress.
We recommend you sort your coats by season.
Have appropriate coats and jackets for each climate you live in. Be sure your coats/jackets are comfortable with the clothing you wear each season. Winter coats need extra room for sweatshirts.
This was easy as it isn’t cold here much so all big coats are in a seperate closet downstairs. Jackets hung neatly ;).
haha… I only really have like 4 coats… one for spring/fall, winter parka and 2 that are good for rain…

This was a hard day. I said goodbye to several cashmere coats, but the feeling of lightness and both emotional and physical is priceless. Hard days are worth it!
It’s a bit of a trade-off, isn’t it Julianne? But the lightness is worth the price! Nice work letting those coats go. 🙂
Day 6 complete! I found this task the easiest so far. Hanging space looks extremely organised. So pleased with the result. But I must say, the shelves and drawers look very out of place now! Looking forward tomorrow’s tasks Michelle!
