Our group responses are as follows: Get large garbage or several small bags.
Go through each room of your home or apartment and start filling the bag or bags up.
Living Room: Old magazines [only keep the ones of interest to you and keep in metal file cabinet or metal file drawers. Consider reading your favorite magazines online. Also, magazines can be donated to nonprofit organizations for art.] Tatty rugs and cushions = trash.
Old/no longer used videotapes, DVDs, CDs can be donated to your local library; given them as gifts; sell to local records shops or eBay for extra cash or yard sale or sell at a local consignment shop. Unloved ornaments can be used for gifts; Xmas ornaments store for next Xmas.Trash broken ornaments! Trash dead plants but keep the planter to repurpose.
Once you have completed the living room return items that don’t belong to their appropriate location. We suggest once you finished throwing items away dust the room.
Home Office: Old paperwork, bills, mail [keep if needed for taxes or reference; shred sensitive or confidential]. Knickknacks that provide no meaning re-gift repurpose or trash.
Bedroom: Trash tatty bed linen. Dressers keep each drawer organized include the top of the dresser. Anything on bedside tables that detract from a comforting bedtime sanctuary [you can use a wood chair or small table or bedside caddy]. Vacuum for carpeting; pet hair and tile floor
Kitchen/Dining: Chipped or stained crockery [stoneware dish sets]. Example of stoneware is pfaltzgraff. Rusty = trash or mismatched cutlery. Expired food and condiments in the pantry or fridge [on a weekly basis check the expiration of your food if expired = trash; when in doubt throw it out; condiments and spices if not used within 1 year = trash and purchase replacements of your favorite spices and condiments. Cookware, teapots, gadgets, utensilsin the past 12 months [it depends on the item i.e. you like coffee or toast I would keep a back coffee pot and toaster]. Cookbooks that you don’t use or outdated donate to local library or a local cooking club; and recipes: keep in notebook using acetate slip sheets; or laminate it; type into your computer and print a copy as necessary. Use placemats on your table to place your dining ware on table top for ambiance.
Bathroom: Trash tatty towels, bathmats, etc. Towels that can no longer be used by people repurpose to wash your vehicle. Expired or old toiletries, hairbrushes, combs, etc. [cosmetics do have an expiration dates; check the bottles if expired. Mildewed bottles trash! Yucky bathroom accessories trash! Unloved bathroom ornaments donate or re-gift.
